City Tour

Chişinău is the capital city and industrial and commercial centre of Moldova. It is also the largest city of Moldova and is located in the centre of the country, on the river Bac. Economically, the city is the most prosperous in Moldova and is one of the main industrial centres and transportation hubs of the region. As the most important city in Moldova, Chişinău has a broad range of educational facilities. Additionally, the city has among the highest proportion of green spaces of any major city in Europe.

The Capital of Moldova, Chisinau, called the city “made from white-stone, washed by green seas”.
The first record of the settlement dates from 1436, by that time the town extended over the seven surrounding hills. In the beginning a small market town, Chisinau became in the XIX c. the administrative centre of Basarabia. The city quickly evolved. In a short time numerous buildings were constructed in different architectural styles. Roads, new services and agricultural markets appeared.

Milestii Mici

In August, 2005 Mileştii Mici is a collection of wine was registered in the Guinness World Records for being the biggest Wine Collection in the world. It took nearly a year to consider the application.
The collection comprises 1.5 million bottles.Stretching for 250km, of which only 120km are currently in use, the Mileştii Mici cellar complex is also the largest in the world.Overall, the complex holds nearly 2 million bottles. More than 70% of the stored wines are red, 20% are white and
about 10% are dessert ones. The most valuable items of this collection, worth €480 a bottle, were produced in 1973-74; they are now exported only to Japan.
After getting acquainted with the underground beauties and the "Golden Collection" the guests are lead into the luxurious tasting halls. During the summertime they gladden the visitors with their coolness, in winter – with the heat of the fireplace.Water, stone, tree – three natural elements who dictate the style of the original architectural ensemble. They magnificently complete each other and harmonize with the wines given for the tasting, since the design is executed in a warm, comfortable atmosphere.
The walls are made from natural sea shell rock, skillfully illuminated by elegant lamps. The refinement of the style reveals the luxury of the delicious wines. All you have to do is to enjoy the beauties around you, to taste the wines and the traditional dishes, which will complete the whole idea about the spirit of our country. The type of the wines and of the dishes depends on the curiosity and on the taste of the visitors. The tasting of the wines is done by all the rules: from the white to the red, from the dry to the sweet, from the young to the old. The wines are noble, tender and mysterious.

Old Orhei

Old Orhei is a museum complex that presents the remains of different civilizations established between the Nistru and Prut rivers. It is situated 60 km from Chisinau in a narrow, rocky, 150-200 m deep bend in the Raut River valley. The remnants of the first human settlement can be found in the cliff caves. Up on the top of the cliff there was a strong fortification (V - III c. BC) built by the Geto-Dacian people, who had their own unique calendar at that time. Among the fortification ruins one can find the site of this ancient calendar, which also had the role of an altar for religious purposes common among those ancient communities. On the opposite side of the river one can distinguish the ruins of the "New town" of the Golden Horde called Sheihr-of Gedid (XIII-XIVc.), which according to researchers is considered to be one of the Tartars’ capitals during their expansion into Europe.

Saharna

Enjoy with Saharna plateau beauty, where two cloisters are situated, one of them is placed in the depth of the cave.
During movement to the depth of the canyon one hears the boom of 22 waterfalls. The highest of them falls from the four meter height. Unusual feelings will appear visiting the most famous and most marvelous monastery of Moldova – this is the monastery named "Trinity", which is situated between two gigantic cliffs of Saharna.
The monastery is surrounded by the mysterious atmosphere. According to a legend, Saint Maria left her footprint on the one of the cliffs, as symbol of "divine purity" left in this place "birds' country".

Cricova

Cricova's underground labyrinth with its 120 km (74 miles) long roadways is one of the largest in the world. Half of the roadways are used for wine storage. The roads are named by the wines they store. This "wine city" has its warehouses, tasting rooms and other facilities underground. It goes down to 100 m (328 ft) below ground and holds 1.25 million bottles of rare wine. The oldest wine dates back to 1902. The temperature is maintained at about 12 C (54 F) all year round (which is perfect for wine). The territory used to be a mine for limestone, a building material. In some branches excavation is still active, so the cellar is still growing.

Cricova is one of the very few wineries in the world that produce sparkling wines in accordance with the classical French method, purportedly invented centuries ago by the monk Dom Pierre Perignon – "Methode Champenoise", by means of the secondary in-bottle fermentation and an ultimate maturation cuve in horizontal position of at least 3 years.

The "Grand Cellars of Cricova" house a remarkable collection of wines – The National Oenotec. The unique exhibits ("Jerusalem of Easter" vintage 1902, the liqueur "Jan Becker" vintage 1902) togetherwith other 158 brands from Bourgogne, Moseley, Tokay, Rein, etc. – make up the precious thesaurus ofthe establishment as well as of Moldova in general, comprising nowadays a total of about 1.3 million bottles.
However, the pride of the Oenotec are, first of all, the wines bearing the name "Cricova", which brought the winery a collection of national and international tasting awards. As of 2008, the collection consists of over 70 silver, gold and Grand Prix awards.

Cojushna

In 1908, a very special winery was founded in the Moldovan village of Cojushna, which made wines using exceptionally French technologies. Years were passing, passions storming but wines made in Cojushna kept on living and, despite everything, warming human hearts in times of joy and sorrow.
The wines still live. Moreover, the Cojushna winery, which is approaching its centenary, seems to be enjoying its second youth. The joy has been brought into the old walls by genuinely talented people fully devoted to their work, otherwise there could be no achievements whatsoever. Nowadays Cojushna makes over 10 denominations of renowed wines with quality remaining excellent as usuall. Its experts invested all their love and souls in creating a unique wine collection which now covers the enterprise’s entire history. The old maestros are saying: as long as we remember our history – we live and move forward.
Life goes on and new wines appear which vanquish with their fine aroma, southern sacramentality and delicious bouquet no worse than traditional varieties. But the real pearls are crowning the art of Cojushna winegrowers are “Dumbrava din Cojusna” and “Cojusna” which have earned connoisseurs’ highest appreciateion. Well, you may taste them at the famous winery where hospitable hosts are always happy to invite you to. If you like a national environment, then you will find a cosy place in the Stone Hall, decorated in the Moldovan national style by local craftsmen. If you prefer modern comfort – you will enjoy your tasting session in the European White Hall arranged specially for such guests. You will also learn how expert Moldovans are in keeping their ancient traditions and in creating the new ones.
